I loved the article for today! I truly believe a majority of the reason I am at cross fit is for my future. For those of you that don’t me, I am the somewhat bigger red head always off to the side getting my butt kicked by Sean (not for long Justin said I am to join the crew for classes starting next week.. anxiety sets in.. that is another topic all together). Over the last three years I went from being this active and fit young woman to someone that has slowly stopped working out quite as much, and has watched the weight pile on. As hard as it is to deal with the physical result and reactions to my daily life, it is more terrifying to deal with what the future would hold if I didn’t do something, and do something now! While my physicals still ran perfectly clean, I could not help thinking about what would happen to my body 5 and 10 years from now. The thought of even having children with my husband; and bringing them into a home where our activity levels were not up to optimal level and they had an obese mother was/is the last thing I ever wanted to do. Not to mention on my father’s side no one has ever lived past 57years old; (no that’s not a typo) cancer and heart disease conquer on his side. As I approach 30 I keep thinking to myself how young 57 is. Being at cross fit for the last 10weeks has given me a glimpse of the strong body I used to have; and the way I feel due to working out and cutting flour out of my diet is phenomenal. It really gives me hope for the family my husband and I will have in the future, and our future as we grow older together. This truly has become a permanent change in my life as I believe now is for tomorrow! I think my husband’s thoughts run close to mine, and while he does not having weight to shed being healthy for us and our future family runs close to his heart too (he had his first night in the box yesterday, good job honey)!

Great post Katrina. Keep up the hard work!

Katrina,
I can't tell you how close to home that hits with me. I too was following in my father's footsteps on my way to becoming the stereotypical fat italian. However, WCCF has changed my life for the better and I am glad to see it is working for you. I speak for everyone here when I say we can't wait to have you join the "crew" and we welcome you with open arms (albeit sweaty arms in this weather.) It is going to be awesome to be there for you on your journey to a healthier life for your husband, yourself and maybe a few rugrats in the future. See you soon.

Katrina,
Congrats on beginning your crossfit journey! Can't wait to sweat it out with you in the box.

This article really hit home for me. In August it will be the two year anniversary of my mother's death. She died from colon cancer at the age of 53. She almost never exercised and smoked until her last days. While I don't think those things caused the cancer, her case was really an anomaly, I can't help but wonder if she had been in better shape if her body would have held out a little longer. Given us more time with her. Who knows if that is the case? But while in all honesty I work out for mainly vanity reasons, in the back of my mind I want to do everything I can to keep my body healthy and strong so hopefully I will have a better chance as I get older.

This could be my favorite article yet. And Katrina, Dingo, Meme - ALL of those who have personal stories to share - thank you so much for letting us hear those stories.

Even though much seems to be focused on the fastest times, the heaviest sets and those who destroy workouts, those "stories" have nothing on you guys and those who are working just as hard as those who finish in the top 5 of the CrossFit Games but are working towards a better life instead. We have so many people at WCCF (meaning members and those who follow our site that live out town) that are more inspirational than someone doing a sub-2 minute Fran.

Katrina, I can't wait until you join the classes (yes, Dingo is right, there will be open arms, though you might not want to touch them!) It's people like you that "get it" that make CrossFit what it is, and it's why I am so passionate about it.

Thanks for the input everyone.... It's nice to get back to the root of CrossFit.....

Katrina, your post and attitude are awesome. The WCCF community's supportive style will fold you into the classes with ease. Your mind sounds strong already and that is half the battle.

Jeneral

Great article and great posts. You're all making me smile today.

Thank you Katrina and Dingo for sharing your stories. I couldn't agree with Lauren more that you are the athletes that should be celebrated, not the juiced up guys that can snatch 350lbs over their heads. I constantly hear people talk about what they need to do or what they should be doing...you guys should be recognized for acknowledging the problem and doing something about it. Crossfitters are do'ers (get ur minds outta the gutter) not talkers and it sounds like you'll fit in just perfectly.

Now get into the group classes and DO WORK!!!
