Sorry if this was posted already and I missed it, but I saw it in the CrossFit Endurance blog and thought that it was interesting. It is an article about how brief bouts of high intensity exercise can produce endurance gains- at least in rodents and college students on bikes:

This post is a heavy one to start the morning but a story I needed to share. As a community we strive for personal wellness but our health reaches far beyond the physical. Tonight I will be participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Overnight, a 20-mile walk through the night raising awareness for suicide prevention. Ten years ago, I lost my mother to suicide. My mother, Beth Garrett Erskins was the strongest woman I have ever known.
I walk because…
I do not want the nature of my mother’s death to overshadow the amazing woman that she was.
I walk because…
I want to end the stigma that prevents people from getting the help they need.
I walk because…
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college-age young adults, 3rd for teens.
I walk because…
I know numerous women who have suffered from postpartum depression.
I walk because…
I do not want suicide to be an option.
I walk because…
I need to continue to heal.
I walk in memory of my mother and in honor of my daughter, HOPE. Today is Hope’s second birthday. Hope was named for the gift of hope that was given to me the day my mother died…my husband.
Please join me in my efforts by encouraging someone you know who may be suffering from depression to get help. If you have experienced depression, share your story. Be proud of what you have overcome. During these trying economic times and numerous job losses, we need to be aware that people are struggling and need professional assistance. Depression is the leading cause of suicide and is among the most treatable of psychiatric illnesses. Organizations like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention fund counseling services at no charge. Know that you can be the voice for someone crying for help.
On a lighter note, I feel perfectly ready to walk 20 miles. Perhaps I will throw in some burpees for good measure!
With gratitude,
Peyton

Peyton, thank you for posting this. I should just stop at that, as deeper words are failing me, but... I am fortunate that my depression is under control (and I had access to the help I needed) but many people don't have access to these services and with the economic crisis, that's going to get worse. So thank you for doing this walk.

Peyton - thank you for sharing. As Jason said, deeper words are failing me; however, I will be thinking of you tonight as you walk to raise awareness. Also, happy birthday to Hope!
One last thing... I love this community. I love that people feel comfortable enough to post these types of stories. I've said it before...the WCCF community is second to none. Have a great Saturday TEAM WOD everybody...wish I was there to join in.

Peyton amazing post.. thank you so much for sharing!Words are nearly impossible when responding to such intense emotion and loss. I lost my brother to suicide in 2000 at the tender age of 18 years old... so thank you... for what you are doing is amazing.. I will be thinking of you while you complete your walk tonight.

Peyton,
I am so moved by your post and so proud of you . Words fail me !! Instead feel the love that surrounds you in this community, that we are all so fortunate to be a part of. Will be thinking of you tonight. Walk strong.

peyton the previous posts i think say it all my family and i will be thinking of you tonite. i think that the 20mile walk should be enough i think you can skip the burpees this time :)
i just want to add that i thank zach (my brother) on almost a daily or weekly basis for introducing me not just to xfit but specifically to wccf. this is the best ive felt in a long time not only physically but emotionally and mentally. my family friends and employees can see the difference in my attitude since i started almost 6 months ago. its to the point that at work my employees know i have to be out the door to make my xfit class because im a happier person but more so a better boss after completeing my daily wods.
my parents didnt fully understand xfit until they came on murph day are were amazed at the family community. hopefully i will get them to come for a wod one of these days.

First post on this message board, actually first post on any message board, but I wanted to thank you Peyton. I have not had the privilege of meeting you but I look forward to it at some point. I sit here hunched at a desk in a library studying for the bar and your experience, strength and post managed to put it all back into perspective. Best of luck on your walk and thank you once again.
